As a parent we all have to play a part,
To prevent bullying before it can start,
So when you see your child in a deep glare,
Don't tell them not to stare,
Instead, say lets find a place that we both can sit,
So that we can talk about it.

I'm Back!!!

I'm Back!!!

Hey everyone...I want to say I am so sorry!! I have lost touch with the reading and writing world. Life has thrown me a few curve balls and I have had to play dodge ball for a while. lol. But I am back and ready to rock and roll with my book(s). I am going to be starting a new book this summer and hopefully it will take under a year to right. More info will follow in the next few months. As for "Growing with Joe", sales have dropped this past year but that is probalby to the economy and the fact it is in the crapper!!! I am announcing that my book is back on Amazon with a new "increased" price. Nice...! Not! They have raised the price of "Growing with Joe" five dollars. The good new is that I have not. I am still personally selling the book for the old price on my website freewebs.com/daniellehiner. I see no need to raise the price. Don't forget that every book that I sell off of myh website is autograph too.

Currently, I am trying very hard to partner with my sister who sells BeautiControl. I am hoping to be able to work something out with her for some type of discount to anyone who buys a book. Maybe the customer can recieve a coupon for BeautiControl or enter to win a basket...or something. After all we deserve to pamper ourselves.

Drop me a line or two sometime. I love to hear from my readers.

June/2008

June/2008

May issue is missing.

Keeping My Readers Upadated:

Due to personal issues I was unable to submit an article in May. Sorry!

As of today six copies of my book "Growing with Joe" have been sold this year. Needless to say that sales are down. So if you know of someone who is raising a special needs child please tell them about my book. Further information about this book can be viewed at www.freewebs.com/daniellehiner.

I have just returned from an out of state booksigning. I was invited to do a booksigning and reading at the "2008 United Cerebral Palsy Conference". However, due reasons that were out of my control the booksiging was canceled shortly after I arrived at the event. Oh well. Maybe next time.

I mentioned in my last article that I was working on a review of "Broken Borders" by Ayisha Blevins. Below you will find my review of this wonderful book.

This months Featured Author is Ayisha Blevins.

Title: Broken Borders

Wonderfully Written!

Broken Borders is an outstanding book! Author Ayisha Blevins has done a wonderful job telling the story of a young teenage immigrant boy who struggles to provide for his family. His only goal in life is to protect his family and to assure their safety. He will not stop until he has accomplished his goal, knowing that the way to do so is to find a way to bring his family to America. This author shows that in reality there are true hardships that immigrants are faced with each and everyday. The story begins with his young life and takes the reader throughout his adolescent years and into his manhood. Within the pages of this book, is a story of both distress and growth. I loved this book and applaud her for writing it. She has done an amazing job making this story come alive through mere words. I recommend this book and look forward to reading more of her work.

Author Interview with Ayisha Blevins:

Why did you write "Broken Borders"?

I wrote Broken Borders because I am intrested in the immigration crises with people from Mexico, Central America, Haitti, and Cuba willing to risk their lives for a peace of the American dream whether it be illegally or legally.  I think many Americans have forgotten that our European ancestors came and took this land by force from the Native Americans who were already here. I believe that many Americans forget that their ancestors were immigrants to this country and are descended from a long line of immigrants. I also wanted to point out to the American public that the reason many people come illegally into America is to escape dictator regimes in their own countries, and to gain a better life for their families that they may be forced to leave behind in their home country.  Mexico for example is not as advanced as America in technology and jobs. People live in slums and the Government of Mexico and other third world countries don't care about the people; the citizens of their respected countries.  Children are dying every day of malnutrition and lack of medical care. I don't think that many Americans realize how long it takes for someone from a third world country to get a visa and a green card to come over into the USA.  It costs them thousands of dollars just for the flight from their country to America and more often then not they don't have access to that money as easily as a person from Europe might. I don't believe how many Americans realize how lucky they are to live in this country and how much better off they are then the rest of the world.

How long did it take to write?

Broken Borders took me 6 months to plan and 6 months to write.

Was it hard to get your book published?

Yes it was hard.  I got accepted by Llumina which is an online publisher but they cost $3,059 to edit the book and publish it so I am going to publish with I universe hopefully in the next three to four months if I have all the money saved up.

Tell the readers a little about yourself?

I was born in West Chester, PA USA in the month of February.  I got married 10/19/2006 at 19 years old. I have Spanish, Welsh, German, and Scottish-Irish in my blood. I have a Welsh accent.  I had an uncle who was a pirate.  My favorite subject in school was English.  I got my first book published in March 2007 at 20 years old.  I currently have two children books completed.  I have 35 books planned for the future.  I was born to a teenage mother and a 21 year old father. I suffered physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of my former stepfather from 7-13 years old. I suffered emotional abuse from my current stepfather from 14-19 years old.  I am a housewife and an author. During my free time I like to work on my novel or watch television.  I love the History Channel and the Travel Channel.

You mentioned in your book that you graduated twice. Can you tell us about that?

Yes. I graduated high school socially when I was eighteen years old. What that means is I had all the credits to graduate high school early, but my mother thought I wasn't ready to graduate academically so my school didn't accept my credits that I had earned(I worked in American History which I compelted in the 1st semester and Government in the second semester). However I did get to graduate with my friends and classmates which was nice. There were only 9 students of the senior class when I was 18.  When I was in 12th grade I had to take American History, and Government over again along with English 11.  I completed all the requirements for graduation a second time along with some extra classes such as Mythology and Onstage Theater and I graduated in the top 50 out of 200 students in June 2006 at 19 years old. I also got a diploma for my academic credits.

Are you working on another book? If so please tell us about it.

Yes I am currently on Chapter 2 of another book. It doesn't have any title as of yet.  The story is about a young Jinn child(For more information on Jinn please go to http://www.freewebs.com/karewislam and click on the "Jinn and Angels" page) who is taken from his home planet that is 300 light years away from Earth because of an attack on the Russian president by a group of his people.  The Jinn child who is called Adel is thrown into a specially designed prison in South Korea where he awaits trial. Back on Adel's home planet, the captain of the Jinn army goes to Adel's parents and informs them of the news that they did not rescue Adel and fear he is dead.  Adel's parents refuse to believe this and send one of their friends to Earth to go look for Adel. This book will end with another devestating war between the creatures of clay(Humans) and the creatures of smokeless fire(Jinn) that will determine the fate of their two worlds forever.

Do you have a website that people can view an excerpt of the book?

Yes I do. http://www.silentlair.com (Click on "Excerpt from Broken Borders")

Do you have any events that you have booked, such as book signing?

No I have no book signings at this time.

Is there anyone that you would like to thank?

I would like to thank God for giving me the courage to write this book.

Where is your book available?

It isn't published yet but when it is, it will be available on BarnesandNoble.com Amazon.com, and in 25,000 book retailers in the USA.

First-ever Genetic Animal Model Of Autism

ScienceDaily (Dec. 9, 2007) -- By introducing a gene mutation in mice, investigators have created what they believe to be the first accurate model of autism not associated with a broader neuropsychiatric syndrome, according to research presented at the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology annual meeting. This animal model could help researchers better understand abnormal brain function in autistic humans, which could help them identify and improve treatment strategies. Broader neuropsychiatric conditions include Fragile X, the most common cause of inherited mental impairment, and Rett Syndrome, a childhood neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by normal early development followed by slowed brain and head growth, seizures, and mental retardation.

Issue #2

This month I am working on reviewing a book titled "Broken Borders" written by Ayisha Blevins. I just started reading this book but I can honestly say that I have found this book to be interesting. I will have the completed review posted in my next news article. If this book continues to hold my interest (I believe that it will), I will list the book on my Amazon bookstore site. The books that are listed at my Amazon bookstore are personally hand picked. I am very slective when it comes to what is listed on the site.

"Growing with Joe" update

I am sad to say that only one book so far this year was sold. However, I am still going to strive to reach my goal of 200 copies sold in 2008. I am currently scheduling booksignings for the summer months.

 Autism Update:

Because this article is not only about various authors and their readers but also it is a tool for me to reach out to the public, on various issues. Since my book "Growing with Joe" is about raising a child that has Autism, Cerebral Palsy and White Matter Disease, I will be dedicating a section of this article to help keep parents that are also raising special needs children informed and educated.

Legislature backs plan to insure kids with autism

The Arizona Republic
Mar. 18, 2008

Families in Arizona with autistic children are set to be among the first in the country to have expensive cutting-edge autism therapy covered by private health- and disability-insurance plans.

After weeks of grass-roots lobbying by parents and emotional committee testimony, lawmakers have approved one of the first insurance mandates of its kind in the nation.

The bill blocks insurance companies from denying coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of autism, including coverage for behavioral therapy, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars a year.

  • Good luck with your book sales, I know it's hard. I'm in the same boat! How can I get an Amazon Den page? I never saw that feature promoted anywhere but looked at yours and would like to make one for me. Karen, author of "My Funny Dad, Harry"
